Acer Inc. unveiled 2 new products here on Thursday as it aims to strengthen its hold on the rapidly growing media tablet market. Both devices, the Iconia-484G64ns and the Iconia Tab W500, are powered by the Windows 7 operating system and are targeted mainly at content consumption. These also come with a "ring control interface," which serves as a shortcut for certain programs. The Iconia-484G64ns boasts of two 14-inch multi-touch LCD screens, which allows users to watch multiple videos at once, or view web pages without having to scroll up or down. The extended monitor can also act as a virtual keyboard, complete with a touchpad, numeric keypad and handwriting mode.
The Iconia-484G64ns runs on an Intel Core i5-480M processor and has a hard disk drive of 640 gigabytes. It also has a 10.1-inch multi-touch LCD screen, a camera, as well as Bluetooth, LAN (local area network) and Wi-Fi capabilities. With a weight of 2.8 kilograms, the dual-screen touchbook looks and feels like the usual heavy laptop.At P70,000, it is priced like one, too. Acer admitted that it may be a bit expensive for some, adding that the company may come up with a smaller, lighter and cheaper version of the Iconia-484G64ns in the future.
Along with the unveiling of Acer's dual-screen touchbook is the launch of its own version of the increasingly popular tablet computer. The Iconia Tab W500, said to be the first Windows 7-powered tablet to become available in the country, can be used either as a slate or a netbook via a dockable keyboard.
The Iconia Tab W500 has an AMD C-Series C-50 processor, an AMD Radeon HD 6250 graphics card with 256 megabytes of dedicated system memory, and 2-gb DDR3 memory chip with a 32-gb SDD capacity. The device weighs almost 1 kilogram, quite heavy compared to the tablet offerings of Apple and Samsung, among others. Its price has yet to be determined, but Acer said it will more or less cost as much as its competitors.
